The Deputy Majority Leader in Parliament Hon Sheku Badara Bashiru Dumbuya has confirmed that Hon Eddie Turay shall be appointed as the country’s High Commissioner to the United Kingdom.
He spoke to Awoko yesterday in his office at Parliament where he stated that Hon. Eddie Turay’s appointment shall be done by the President but that it has to go through a process. “I have been an ambassador before but people don’t understand that in appointing an ambassador, it has to go through a process” he said.
Hon. Eddie Turay first entered Parliament in 1996 when he lifted the All Peoples Congress Party from the woods by winning five seats.
Since then, he has been there up to the 2007 elections when he became the Majority Leader
He has been absent in Parliament for some time and was even absent at the State Opening of Parliament to receive and lay the President’s speech on the table.
Even some MPs spoken to could not explain what was wrong with him whilst some said they heard that he was sick and might have travelled overseas for medical attention.
In the absence of Hon. Eddie Turay, his deputy, Hon. Sheku Badara Bashiru Dumbuya has been acting accordingly and has been tipped should, there be a vacancy to fill it.
There is no sense of lobbying going on in Parliament for the position of Majority Leader but one MP said “we want a leader that cares for the well being of not only us, but Parliament as a whole. But as far as I am concerned I think Hon. Sheku Badara Bashiru Dumbuya has that quality to respond to debates and one that cares for Parliament and the protection of Government” the MP stated.
