For 50th Independence anniversary celebrations… Pujehun District establishes coordinating committee

As part of its mandate the National Planning Committee for the 50th Independence Anniversary Celebrations which is on a nationwide consultation has in a stakeholders’ meeting put together a special District Coordinating Committee with membership drawn from all 12 Chiefdoms in the Pujehun District for an all out successful celebration come 2011.
The formation of the District Committees in all 12 Districts follows the 18th May 2010 commissioning of the National Planning Committee by President Koroma at State House.
The theme for the upcoming 2011 celebrations, “50 years forward celebrating a new Sierra Leone” is designed to re-brand and showcase Sierra Leone for tourism and to further attract potential investors.
Speaking at the stakeholders meeting held at the Pujehun District Council Hall the National Executive Secretary Yiniva Siray Sogbeh said the celebration has a national character which she stated is non political as its meant to promote pride and patriotism, noting that the committee is charged with the responsibility of raising funds while the Government will provide the seed money to close the remaining gaps as appropriate.
The Executive Scribe further disclosed that the National Committee has further been divided into various sub-committees to help fast track the entire workload adding that they are working with various Diplomatic Missions around the world with the view of reaching out to growing number of Sierra Leoneans in the Diaspora who are being accepted as the fifth Province.
Various members of the Planning Committee including M. E. Kamara, Agatha Johnson, Bockarie Enssah all made mention of preliminary list of nation wide events set to cover the whole of 2011.
For his part the Chairman Pujehun District Council Sadiq Sillah expressed confidence in the newly constituted District committee headed by the Pujehun District NACSA Coordinator Brima K. Lebbie who chaired the consultative meeting with the District stakeholders.
Brima Lebbie in turn encouraged all particularly members of the Press to help provide the necessary publicity for the forward match.
