UNPP Leader quits

The leader of the United National Peoples Party (UNPP) Professor Abdul Kady Karim has quit his position as leader and flag bearer of the party.
Addressing reporters yesterday at the Sierra Leone News Agency (SLENA) in Freetown, he stated that in June 2006 he was elected leader and flag bearer for UNPP for four years.
He added “I strongly believe that if you want to govern this country you must respect the law and my term has expired”.
Professor Karim maintained that he joined the UNPP in 2001 because his ideals and those of the party were compatible.
He averred “I believe that my intention for involving in politics is to find a way to help this nation and leave a land mark in the lives of Sierra Leoneans”.
“I believe that the UNPP will continue with or without me”, adding that with immediate effect, “I resign to be a leader and member of the party”. I just want to put UNPP behind my back and move forward.
He reiterated that he will formally write to the party informing them about his resignation.
Professor Karim assured that he intends to join a political party and not a political club.
