Young peace builders to host peace camp

The Young Peace Builders (YPB) Sierra Leone will host a National Volunteer Youth Peace Camp 2011 from December 26 – 31 in Makeni.
This was disclosed to journalists in a press conference by the YPB SL. The peace camp is designed to offer to young people and youth organizations within and outside Sierra Leone the opportunity to be part of a weeklong training and educational activities relating to HIV/AIDS, Peace building, Human Rights, Climate Change and leadership in order to empower them with the tools to becoming agents of peace and make positive change in their various communities.
The coordinator said the peace camp is targeted at bringing together a total of about 200 young people from the four corners of the country and other countries within the range of 16-24 years.
A representative from the National Youth Commission Mr. Manso Bangura gave a brief statement on behalf of the Commission and pledged their support towards the peace camp.
Statement was also made by a representative from the Peace and Development corps NaSCA Mr. Joseph Sesay. He stated that NaSCA has done a lot in terms of infrastructure in the country and they are now concentrated in capacity building and addressing socio economic needs of the country, that is the reason why the organization was established in order to give young people who are educated to have experience in their various fields after university.
Statement was also made by the Executive Director of Ecotours Miss Edna Wise who also encouraged young people to make good use of their raw potential which is not yet untapped and also to make good use of their time especially as we are approaching the festive season wherein young people are the most vulnerable.
She also emphasized that her presence shows that she is interested in anything that deals with youths.
The coordinator Mr. Herbert Bangura at the end of the programme launched the Rio+20 Global Youth Music Contest which is a global competition for young people organized on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the United Nations Commission on sustainable Development to be held in June 2012 in Brazil. The Youth Peace Camp will involve young presenters who have made their mark in their various fields.
