Kailahun District Chairman Defects to APC

The Chairman of the Kailahun District Council, Rtd. Col. Tom Nyuma who went into the Council and subsequently became its Chairman under the ticket of the Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) has on Sunday, 11th March 2012 defected to the ruling All People’s Congress (APC) party.
He made his declaration for the APC during a meeting held in Buedu town in Kissy Tongi Chiefdom in Kailahun district.
Speaking to Tom Nyuma on the line from Kailahun, he confirmed to Awoko that he has joined the APC party under the leadership of President Ernest Bai Koroma.
He said some youth in Buedu town had invited him to a meeting where PMDC, SLPP and APC party supporters were in attendance and it was during this meeting that he made his intention known.
He told his listeners that he will be contesting for the parliamentary seat in Constituency 04 under the APC in the forthcoming presidential and parliamentary elections in November this year.
He said his decision to cross over to the APC party is motivated by what he called, “the development focus of President Koroma and his clear show of having the country at heart.”
He said since the president came to power, he has undertaken several development strides in the country such as in the area of infrastructure, health and education among others, in a way and manner that was not evident before.
Nyuma says he has nothing against the other political parties as they are democratic institutions contributing to the democratic landscape of Sierra Leone. He however asserted, “I have my liberty and I have my constitutional and democratic rights to belong to any political party of my choice at any given time”.
