Kenema District Council Deputy Chair & wife to 9 months imprisonment

The Deputy Chairman of the Kenema District Council (KDC), Mohamed Luseni Sheriff and his wife, Esther Sheriff of Largo town in the Pujehun Section of Kenema city were last Monday sentenced to nine months imprisonment or pay an alternative fine of Le 1, 500,000 (one million five hundred thousand Leones) each by Magistrate Alhaji Mohamed Momoh-Jah Stevens.
The sentencing came on the final court appearance of the couple following a-three counts charges of disorderly behavior contrary to Public Order Act of 1965, obstruction contrary to Police Act of 1964 and assault on police contrary to police Act of 1964.
The couple was also required by the Magistrate to pay Le 500,000 (five hundred thousand Leones) each as compensation to the complainant, Woman Police Constable, 9025 Isata Nyuma.
According to the particulars of offence, the accused persons on 28th July 2012 at the Family Support Unit (FSU) of the Kenema Police Division assaulted Woman Police Constable 9025 Isata Nyuma of the Kenema Police Division.
According to the Police Prosecutor, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Sahr Didi Lahai of the Legal and Justice Support Department of the Kenema Police Division, the accused persons pleaded guilty to two of the charges, disorderly behaviour and obstruction of police duty. But that they did not plead guilty for assault on the woman police constable.
