The Chef De mission of the National Olympic Committee of Sierra Leone Unisa Deen Kargbo together with the executive of the National Olympic Committee (NOC) past Tuesday addressed coaches and officials of Commonwealth disciplines that are expected to participate in the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland.
According to the Chef De mission Unisa Deen Kargbo, the game has been slated for 23rd July to 3rd August, 2014. He reiterated that the purpose of the meeting was to specifically remind the associations about the entry and to familiarize with the officials regarding the rules and regulations of the game.
He emphasized the system of the biometric registration for athletes and officials and urged them to follow the correct procedures and further appeal to those who are expected to participate in the commonwealth games to adhere to the measures. ”if anyone of them have applied for UK visas and refused prior to now, be open to us, so we will put measures in place to avoid public humiliation of the country,” he noted.
He urged the eight disciplines including Athletics, Boxing, Cycling, Weightlifting, Table Tennis, Wrestling to step up preparations in readiness ahead of the games and welcome on board Squash and Judo for the first time.
Chef de Mission Unisa Deen Kargbo reprimanded the coaches and officials to select and submit the right athlete’s aside sentiment for a fruitful representation of Sierra Leone.
He said over thirty persons including athletes and officials are expected to form the Sierra Leone contingent to Glasgow.
It could be recalled that Sierra Leone was part of the 2010 India Commonwealth Games but failed to win medals.
But the coaches who attended the meeting said they are positive that their athletes will not participate but compete at the games to prevail and grab glory this time.
The NOC scribe Joseph Nyande in his own contribution appeal to those present that this time around they are not just going to participate but to compete that is why they are trying to have at least a two week camping for the athletes.
And for the officials they need to know their roles during the games and this will help them to go to the games as a team.
The NOC President Dr Coker emphasized that the selection of the athletes will be done by the associations themselves not NOC.
