Sierra Leone News: Independent Observer Editors arrested

The Managing Editor of Independent Newspaper Jonathan Leigh and his co- editor Bai Bai Sesay were past Friday arrested and detained over the weekend by officers of the Criminal Investigations Department for allegedly publishing an opinion article in a newspaper judged to be demeaning of the status of President Ernest Bai Koroma.
It is not known what charges may be preferred against them, but officials of the Sierra Leone Association of Journalists (SLAJ) and other senior journalists were over the weekend making frantic efforts to secure their release.
