Sierra Leone News: MP Boosts Constituency 014 in Kenema District

The Sierra Leone People Party (SLPP) Honorable Member of Parliament representing Constituency 014 in the Lower Bambara Chiefdom in Kenema District, Hon. Francis Amara Konuwa has revealed his development plan in his constituency that includes the construction of six bridges in Panguma town the chiefdom headquarter of Lower Bambara chiefdom. Hon Konuwa maintained that the idea to construct the six bridges comes out of series of appeals from his constituents for the construction of the bridges to link the Panguma community and its immediate environs.
He said though it is not mandatory on members of parliament to undertake development in their constituencies, construction of the bridges will help improve the living standards of his people. He maintained that social development that ensures advanced quality of life for his people, “is part of the social contract between me and my people,” he said.
The Constituency 014 Member of Parliament said his constituency needs several social amenities ranging from schools, health centers and markets among other needs, noting that road construction is a priority to his people.
“With good roads, communities and peoples will be interconnected and this will give rise to the development of trade and commerce between and amongst the people,” Hon. Konuwa stated.
The honourable pointed out that 90% of the materials needed for the project work have being procured and made available to the people at the various project sites, adding that the project has been already launched and is expected to be completed within four months.
When asked about the source of funding for the project work, Hon. Konuwa replied that inasmuch as he is a Parliamentarian, he was also a businessman and that the Le 140, 000, 000 (one hundred and forty million Leones) project cost is being funded from his personal savings.
He explained to his audience that when he receives the proposed Constituency Development Fund, he will not hesitate to disclose it to his people, but hat for now, all he is doing comes from his personal savings, because he maintains, “I have a contract with my people. They demonstrated theirs when they voted for me, and it is imperative on me to do mine no matter the cost,” the honourable said.
