Sierra Leone News: Former CDS in Court

Rtd. Lieutenant General Samuel Omar WilliamsThe former Chief of Defense Staff (CDS), retired Lieutenant General Samuel Omar Williams on Tuesday appeared in Court as prosecution witness in a preliminary investigation of Felony at Magistrate Court No 1.
According to police reports, on 26th May 2015, the accused, Marker Mansaray, Mohamed Lamin Fofanah, Samuel Kongor, Mohamed Bangura and Saffie Sesay maliciously damaged property worth over sixty million Leones (Le60m) belonging to the former CDS.
The police report states that the accused on the said date did conspire and damaged retired Lt General S. O. Williams’ wall fence at Cockle Bay road, Murray Town while in the custody of one Moses Kabba.
In response to a report made by the former CDS, the accused were arrested and charged to court on two count charges of conspiracy to commit felony and malicious damage for which they are being investigated.
However, the matter was stood down by Magistrate Binneh Kamara as the lead defense counsel for the accused was absent in court.
Associate Prosecutor Robert B. Kowa vehemently registered his disappointment with defense counsel for not informing the court about his leave and urged that the court proceed with the matter.
Notwithstanding lawyer Kowa’s plea, Magistrate Binneh granted the defense team an adjournment to the 26th of April 2016, stating that he had done the same thing for the prosecutor. “What is good for the goose is also good for the gander”
