Heather Maxwell, the producer and host of the award winning radio program “Music Time in Africa” who is also the African Music Editor for the Voice of America (VOA) recently made a brief visit to Liberia and Sierra Leone. Heather is an ethnomusicologist with a Ph.D. from Indiana University specializing in African Music. She is also an accomplished jazz and Afrojazz/Afrosoul vocalist and has been working, researching, and performing in Africa and the U.S. since 1987. On Thursday she was at the Sierra Leone Broadcasting Corporation’s late night show with iconic Sierra Leonean musicians Steady Bongo and Nasser Ayoub. She looked at the prospect of Sierra Leone music and discussed ways in getting it popularized in the states. The show ended with an Acapella by Heather, Nasser and Steady.
