Unity Hall, situated on the top level of the SLPP headquarters building, was filled with supporters and decorated in green and white fabrics on Wednesday as Mohamed Rahman Swaray declared his candidacy for National Secretary General of the SLPP.
“Mr. has the acumen to take this party to victory,” said Victor Ansumana as he introduced Swaray. “He is 5 thousand meters above any other candidate.”
Born in Pujehun and raised in Kenema, Swaray earned a BA in English and Political Science from Fourah Bay College and an MBA from the University of Westminster in the UK. Since then he worked in Liberia with the former Civil Defense Forces coordinator Sam Norman, with the Lungi-based Radio Democracy, and with the Sierra Leone Airports Authority, among other positions. In 2010 he worked as a Human Resources manager with African Minerals, and has long been active in the SLPP party.
SLPP chairman James Vibbie said Swaray is a good candidate because of his honesty. Ansumana praised Swaray’s understanding of the Party’s problems and willingness to mingle with people.
For his part, Swaray cited his long years serving with the SLPP and his Public Relations and administrative experience as pluses. “I’m a multi-talented person,” he said.
Raised by a single mother, Swaray said he will prioritize helping women advance in their careers. “Women’s issues are very close to my heart,” he said.
He also said that government censorship of social media goes a step too far, and he would oppose it as Secretary General.
“I will bring an integrity of gold to the secretariat,” he said. “Our party’s return to power is imminent.”
