Africell Corporate Affairs Officer, Joe Abass Bangura, has said, “Soccer continues to be arguably the world’s most popular sport.”
He made this statement during the official display of trophies and prizes for the 2016 President Ernest Bai Koroma Football Tournament on Monday 19th December 2016.
He also stated that no other sport is being played and watched by so many people around the world. The major aim of this tournament is to build better relationships among non-premiership teams in the region, spot new talent and build the foundations for future professional careers.
Africell support cuts across all sporting disciplines, from football, volleyball, lawn and table tennis, basketball, squash and golf.
Bangura revealed that this is the 5th year Africell is partnering with Hon Chernor Bah, the Bombali District Football Association (BDFA) and other sponsors to organize the tournament.
The competition will feature teams from Bombali, Port Loko and Tonkolili Districts. He also mentioned that the grand final would be played at the Wusum grounds in Makeni on the 25th December 2016.
The Chief Organizer of the Ernest Bai Koroma Tournament, Hon. Chernor Bah, has said that this is the 6th Edition of the competition, which has been successful and is gaining momentum as more teams are coming on board.
Chernor Bah revealed that prize money has increased to Le 10 million.
The Wusum Stars and Pathfinders will play off on the 25th of December.
Before the final match it is going to a game between Northern region female combined team against Western area female combined team.
