SLPP Presidential hopeful, Brigadier (Rtd) Dr. Julius Maada Bio has disclosed that the people within the party are his alliance.
He made this statement yesterday at Unity Hall, SLPP, party headquarters on Wallace-Johnson Street, at a meeting held by regional and district party executives.
Dressed In green and white checked shirt, the retired military officer in a no non-sense mood condemned the actions of the Somano Karpen led executive, noting that as Chairman and Leader of the SLPP, Chief Karpen should have behaved like a statesman and acted in the interest of the people, rather than to satisfy self.
Dr Julius Bio added that there is only one SLPP, and Chief Karpen was well aware of what was agreed and signed at the PPRC, with regards to the conduct of the lower level elections.
He said the NEC elections; conducted by the Somano Karpen group is null and void, noting that the SLPP has only one NEC.
On the issue of intra party disputes, Maada Bio recalled that the intra party dispute is no strange thing and had started after the 2005 convention held in Makeni.
“I have remained silent all this while, because each time there is trouble my name is trumpeted all over the place, but it is time to act as all is not well within the party”
In a firm voice the SLPP Presidential hopeful called on all party faithful’s who are his alliance to desist from indiscipline behaviour and behave like responsible citizens, noting that the party has the moral responsibility to save the nation from its present economic strangulation and other ill vices of governance.
The retired military officer to foster peace and unity within the party, encouraged all members and supporters of the SLPP to put aside all petty grievances, citing that Maada Bio and members of the All Aspirants Alliance are not responsible for the present state of affairs, but this is not true, because it is only some few misguided and self-centred individuals are the one’s playing mischief to put the party in a bad light.
“SLPP is not divided and we are a united people, and the will of the people who have come off age politically will decide at the upcoming party convention to be held 24-26th, February 2017”, Bio confirmed.
Still on peace and unity, Brigadier (Rtd) Bio surprised party faithful’s at Unity hall, when he confessed that there is need for dialogue on the way forward stressing that there is need to put structures in place to make sure that the party is well represented during the voter registration process.
He assured that he is willing and ready to hang heads with the Alliance, on the grounds that they appoint a representative who will represent the Alliance, during talks.
Endorsing her husband, Madam Fatima Bio called on the women folk of the SLPP to stand firm, as the will of the party remains supreme, noting that she is hopeful that come 2018, her husband will be the next President of Sierra Leone.
