On Wednesday, flag bearer aspirants for the Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) met at their party office in downtown Freetown, where a joint communiqué was signed. The document aims to bring peace to the party.
Part of the communiqué calls for a return to the original executive structure of August 2013 and annulment of all suspensions and expulsions since 2013. Past executive members will now be reinstated and this includes the return of the Chairman of the Party, Chief Somano Kapen.
Questioned about the peace initiative, Chief Kapen said, “Though the meeting was meant for the flag bearers I was not part of it. But, it has been my dream to restore social intercourse, peace and harmony in the Party”. Adding, “it is a brilliant initiative that has lasting consequences.”
On the issue of his suspension, he said, “The matter was just a constitutional mishap.
He continued, “Everybody had been losing hope but I was always hopeful. I know that when once God say the time has come it will happen and this is the time and nothing will take us backward, but we are moving forward”.
