Sierra Leone News: Police collected money to transport dead boy’s body – witness says

Fourteen-year old, Sheku Kamara was killed on the 10th of January in the Gloucester village. During the preliminary investigation in the Magistrate Court of Tonia Bannette on Wednesday, February 8, 2017, Adama Kargbo, the aunt of the deceased boy, said, “The police who went to the scene of the crime asked for three gallons of petrol before they could transport the boy’s body to the Police Station” at Mountain District Division.
Adama Kargbo said that her nephew was beaten and she arrested the first accused, Senesie Mustapha.
She said, “Since it was late at night, we could not get vehicles to take the boy to the hospital.” The witness said that she gave the police Le 30,000, pleading with them that that was all she had. “Sheku was taken to the police station for a medical form and later to the Connaught Hospital. He was dead when we got to the hospital.”
The matter will continue on Thursday.
Meanwhile, two of the accused remain incarcerated on remand while the third accused, Abdulai Kamara, is on the run.
