Sierra Leone Music firebrand, Emmerson Bockarie has become the latest victim of fake news. Emmerson was reported to have been arrested at the London Heathrow Airport with 2kg cocaine. Corrupt politicians who had been the crux of his melodic lampooning welcomed such news with an ear to ear smile, however, to their dismay it was fake news crafted by mischievous individuals to generate web traffic in most cases to attract advertisers. www.metro-uk.com recently published the fake news with a screaming headline: “Emmerson Bockarie arrested at London Heathrow Airport with 2kg cocaine. The article reads: Sierra Leonean Musician, Emmerson Bockarie has been arrested at London Heathrow Airport for trying to smuggle 2 kilograms of cocaine hidden in two pages of coffee in said two suitcases, authorities said on Wednesday. He was taken to a private search room, where the officers found a second bag full of powder. Both tested positive for cocaine. The estimated value of the cocaine is more than 80,000 official said.Emerson Bockarie was arrested and handed off to Port Authority police. He will be prosecuted by the London District Attorney on drug smuggling charges. “This seizure is another example of UK Border Agency being ever vigilant in protecting the United Kingdom from the distribution of illicit drugs,” said Robert E Perez, Director of UK Border Agency London Field Operations.”While the article was sailing viral on cyberspace with 3.6k views and 1.3k Facebook share enjoying its 15 minutes fame, Emmerson posted a video on WhatsApp saying that he is chilling in Miami and he is well and ok. The video also showed the hotel in which he said he was residing in, and the surrounding palm trees of the environs. In the 00:43 sec video, Emmerson did not mention about the fake news, though.
