Archibald Red Flames (ARF), Alimamy Koroma, known by his nick name “Yao Ming” clinched the 2016/2017 Western Area Inter Club Basketball League (WAB) Most Valuable Player (MVP) award.
Koroma played a major role in ensuring his Red Flames grabbed the WAB’S championship undefeated.
The best-of-three final saw the Red Flames defeat Young Men Sport Club (YSC) two straight to win their maiden title. Koroma scored an incredible 70 points in the two games.
Shortly after he received his award, he stated, “I am delighted to receive the award as the Most Valuable Player in the recently concluded WAB’s league. This is an incredible achievement and I am honoured.”
“This is the award every basketball player wants to win in their career. Winning it at a very young age, tells that I have brighter future in the sport,” the MVP said.
Archibald Red Flames, Head Coach, Issa Fofanah said, “I am very proud of Yao Ming. He was outstanding and has shown how effective he can be when he is focused. He did exactly as I asked in being more attacking minded.”
“Yao is a resilient offensive player. He is one of the youngest on the team and a great player to reckon with. He played extraordinarily to win the MVP award which he honestly deserved”.
He joins teammate, Mohamed Toshiba Sesay, James Bangura and James Ernest Bangura to win the MVP awards.
