Middle order batman and swing bowler, Solomon Williams, says he is looking forward to make a significant impact in the squad selected to compete in the forthcoming ODI 50 overs ICC/WCL, Africa Division One slated for South Africa in April this year.
Williams was part of the senior national men’s team tagged the “Patriots” that promoted Sierra Leone to Division One with 100% unbeaten record in the 2016 ICC/Africa Division two tournament in South Africa. The brilliant middle order batman and swing bowler was opportune to be selected to the national side for two consecutive seasons after displaying impressive performances in the trial matches.
Williams said as a player he will work assiduously to ensure he create a major impact on the team. “I will embark on personal trainings to improve my physical fitness, batting and bowling techniques before we travel to South Africa”.
“I will make good use of the net to correct my mistakes in the area of batting, and as well as jogging to develop my athleticism”.
Williams emphasised that even though they are underdogs, the squad will not be taking their opposition lightly as their aim is to promote the country to the World Cricket League Division Five where they will have the opportunity to face other nations.
“The responsibility is on us to make our country proud. This is the first time Sierra Leone will be playing in the ICC/WCL Africa Division one tournament”.
“We have to show what we can do as a team. Our mission is to win and promote or stay in the competition instead of being relegated to Division Two”.
“Our practice sessions have been intense over the past months, our batting, bowling and fielding strategies have been working well for us”.
We just need to work with the philosophy of the coach to inspire ourselves to make good decisions while playing in the oval against our opponents,” Williams stressed.
