The Chinese medical team at the Jui hospital, on Friday, commemorated the Day of the African Child by offering a free clinic at the Kelly’s Senior Secondary School at Hastings.
The team leader of the group, Dr. Liang Lihui, said they decided to go to the nearest school around the hospital to commemorate the day with them by providing a free clinic and gifts for the pupils.
“We treated so many children for malaria, typhoid, headache, pain and other ailments, and we provided them with drugs and small gifts so that they would be happy when they get well.”
Dr. Liang said there were so many children that wanted treatment but they were unable to treat them all because they were not prepared for such a large number of pupils.
Dr. Xie Weibin, aka Duke, said there are many children that need medical attention and they were surprised to see so many of them. “I saw many children that lack health due to lack of food and clean environment. We will try our best in the next year as we have come to Sierra Leone to help as much as we can.”
He said they met a pupil who couldn’t walk. She has an appointment at the hospital to undergo a more detailed examination. The doctors want to help her walk again in the future.
Nurse Xiang Na, aka Tina, said they were so encouraged by the pupils’ enthusiasm to get treatment and gifts from them. “They were so sweet as they danced and sang songs for us, which was encouraging. We hope we can find time again to visit them and open the free clinic.
She said, “It is our aim to help the less privileged so they can also enjoy life.” She said they will continue to help treat as many Sierra Leoneans as possible.
