Sierra Leone Sports: U.S.-based runner wants to compete for Salone

Margret Barrie, popularly known as, “Maggie”, is a runner based in Columbus, Ohio USA. She says she wants to compete for Sierra Leone.
Margret Barrie paid a courtesy call on the Minister of Sport, Ahmed Khanou, and his Deputy Ismail Al Sankoh Conteh, on Monday 10 July 2017, at the Ministry of Sport, Freetown.
Margret Barrie was born in the United States of America to Sierra Leonean parents. She has been in the USA since birth; attended school and now in the University of Ohio studying Computer Sciences.
The Minister of Sport, Ahmed Khanou, welcomed Barrie together with her family members in his office and praised them for visiting the Ministry of Sport and the National Sports Council to update them on her performances in her career.
The Minister said he had spoken to the National Olympic Committee-Sierra Leone (NOC-SL) to set up a unit that will scout for Sierra Leonean sports people in the Diaspora who wish to represent the country in international sport events. As a Ministry of Sport we could do as much as possible to support the whole process and to ensure that Margret Barrie got her Sierra Leonean passport to enable her represent Sierra Leone in the future.
In her response, Margret said she was very excited to be in Sierra Leone, the home of her parents, and ready to represent Sierra Leone in any athletics competition as soon as possible. She also promised to be back in Sierra Leone in December to participate in the forthcoming Annual Boxing Day Sports – 26 December 2017.
When asked about her performances, she said in her last competition she ran “11.61 seconds in 100m; 23.7 seconds in 200m and 52.27 seconds in 400m”. Margret also said she is ranked within the top twenty (24) Sprinters in 400m”
