Sierra Leone Business: UTB / Western Union partners with Ishwari

Through a partnership with Ishwari and Sons, Union Trust Bank has officially opened its retail outlet over the weekend, at the supermarket’s 97 Wilkinson Road address.
UTB Western Union has several pickup and sending locations across Freetown, but this is its only retail outlet specifically for receiving.
UTB’s Assistant Director, Abdulai Turay, said that, “this type of expansion could help us maintain our dominance and it is a fulfilment of our pledge to serve the community.”
“This partnership helps reinforce UTB’s status as a dominant provider. The Bank has other retail outlets in the provinces.”
He went on to say that, the Ishwari outlet is available throughout the week from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. except on Sundays, unlike the bank that closes at 3:30 p.m. and also on Saturdays.
Responding to questions about why they cancelled the service with other retail outlets, he said, “some run into liquidity problems, so once you enter liquidity crisis, we will not enroll you again, because ideally we will not want to come and give debt or loan for offering your own service,” he said.
Ishwari staff, Karan Tolani, expressed their willingness and commitment towards the remittance service.
Western Union® is a quick and reliable way to send or receive money in worldwide locations such as supermarkets, check cashers, and convenience stores.
