Sierra Leone Sports: Cabinet approves National Sport Policy

Minister of Sports Ahmed KhanouThe Minister of Sports, Ahmed Khanou, has disclosed to the sport family via a whatsApp message that the reviewed National Sport Policy for Sierra Leone was presented and unanimously passed by cabinet at a meeting held on Wednesday 6th August 2016.
The vision for the National Sport Policy, which was reviewed in the National Sport Development Conference held in May this year, is to establish well-organized and efficient machinery for the promotion and development of sports as an industry, equipped with the requisite professional manpower, equipment and facilities, that will enhance nationwide participation in promoting sporting excellence among the youths and young adults.
The Minister said that this is the first major government effort at reforming and repositioning the sport sector for sustainability. This he further insinuates will pave the way for the legislative process in setting up the governance mechanism that has been absent in the sector.
Minister Khanou noted: “On behalf of government, myself and deputy, the PS and staff of the MoS, the directorate and staff of the NSC and all other auxiliary persons that have patronised the process, I wish to convey the President and his government’s appreciation of your support and to continue to solicit same in the next steps”.
He added that it’s a human process and therefore, it going to be gradual which means time is a major consideration. Stating, he is looking forward to more collaboration in the months ahead.
Meanwhile, Sport Administrators are overwhelmed to be informed that the Policy has been approved by Cabinet and they expect the remaining processes to be done successfully as everyone hopes for the better in sports.
Sierra Leone Football Association Head of Media, Ibrahim Kamara posted: “Congratulations to MoS and I’m happy, I contributed in my own little way in ensuring the process becomes a success.”
“Congratulations to the government of Sierra Leone and your team for what I call a giant step in the right direction, “the Chairman of Sierra Leone Volleyball Association referees commission, Mohamed Benson Bawoh commented.
