The Western Area Football Association (WAFA) Women’s football league will kick off with a thrilling opening match between Mahmoud FC and Victory FC at the Fourah Bay playing field in the East of Freetown on Saturday afternoon.
Both teams have expressed firm confidence of winning a resounding victory ahead of the encounter.
The Head Coach of Mahmoud FC, Mahmoud Kargbo, has assured that his squad has prepared well for the league they as they intend to cause upsets for their opponents.
Kargbo claimed even though as a coach, he has respect for his opponent that will not stop his side to thrash Victory FC by a huge number of goal difference to record their first 3 points in the competition.
The Coach remarked, “Having a youthful side makes my job easier for me, because most of them can run with so much pace, they can endure till the end of a match and above all they are focused and highly intelligent”.
“My players know how to read a game; they know when to change formation and how to control the ball. So these are some of the reasons why I’m optimistic of challenging for the trophy,” Kargbo noted.
Mahmoud FC Skipper, Theresa Rose said they are well prepared to face Victory FC in the opening match, which is a very important fixture. Such much she said always have the hype due to the quality of players both teams will be assemble for the tie.
“We are going into the match with the aim of winning convincingly to gain all three points. Victory FC is a good team with fantastic players that have wealth of experience in football, but we will not allow them to overcome us in the match as we have a cheerful team that is always willing to win under any circumstances,” Mahmoud FC, Captain, Theresa Rose cited.
Meanwhile, the Head Coach of Victory FC, Abubakarr Tarawallie, says his ladies are looking very sharp with so much confidence around their camp ahead of the match. Asserting, they’ve done all they could do to prepare as a team before the start of the league.
The Coach claimed, “Victory FC is a disciplined side. We are playing as a team and our focus in the league is to win as many matches as we can to send signals to the other teams that we are one of the favorite title contenders that have the potential of winning the competition”.
Tarawallie further assured their fans of victory, adding, he has no doubt in his team, therefore they should come out in huge numbers to chant the name of the players and support them to victory. “We need their support to motivate the players. Their presence in the venue will might inspire the players to score more goals,” he said.
Victory FC player, Sarah Sesay expressed the views of her teammates, noting that they are all in readiness to defeat the ladies of Mahmoud FC. Emphasizing that with the mixture of experience and young players in their team, they will dominate the full regulation time.
