The National Minerals Agency (NMA), yesterday, organized a one-day training for civil society groups and journalists on the Sierra Leone resource contracts repository – an online portal tailored to mining agreements, policies and regulations.
Alusine Timbo, Director of Mines, said the workshop was aimed at training civil society groups to understand how to make use of the information available on the online repository. The online site holds licence agreements between mining companies and the government, records of tax payments, financial transactions, etc. The online site is www.revenue.dv.org.
Timbo added, the system was launched in 2012, developed in partnership with the Revenue Development Foundation in collaboration with the Ministry of Mines and Mineral Resources and the National Minerals Agency.
He said the Mines Ministry is largely responsible for the formulation of policies and NMA implements the policies. The website portal contains agreements with government and mining companies and oil and gas contracts, amongst others
Manager Mining Cadaster and Records, Eugene R.P. Norman, said more than 4,000 people have registered on the repository since the launch and numerous companies use the repository to check their application or license status.
He explained that the new features on the online repository are now available from an internet connection or browser on any smart phone with an automatic synchronization of data which was previously done manually.
Norman added that users of the online repository can now download PDF and Excel spreadsheet data from the system. Users can access dynamic charts, which give a quick overview of the data system on the public dashboard.
The license profile page also has three tabs one for general information, another for map of the concession area and payments.
