The Manager of Opportunity Training Centre in Kenema, Hawa Koroma, a seamstress, said political leaders don’t care for people with disabilities. According to her, being disabled does not prevent them from being able to perform their various task as human beings. She continued, “The actions of leaders and other stakeholders in society are unfair towards the affairs of disabled people.”
“Some people clearly discriminate against persons with disabilities, which is against local and international laws. “I hate seeing disable people begging along the streets for their living,” she said. “Politicians always take advantage of them during elections period because they are idle and only depend on them for survival.”
According to her person with disabilities should accept the fact about their physical structure and make use of their God-given talents to make their living. She said she is providing training for more than 50 disabled people in various skills to transform their lives for the better.
According to her, NMJD offered her an opportunity to benefit from skills training and awarded her a certificate, which she uses to survive. “I have decided to engage my service in seeking redress for my people for a better change,” she said, explaining that she would use all her time attending trainings and workshops to improve her knowledge on issues around her.
