Jawei Flood Victims Receive Aid

Hundreds of residents in Jawei Chiefdom and its environs in the Kailahun District on Friday November 20, 2009 converged at Daru Town to witness the presentation ceremony of 60 bags of rice and the sum of one million four hundred thousands Leones to victims of flood that two months ago that affected dozens of residents and destroyed properties worth millions of Leones.
The presentation was done by the Hon. Member of Parliament representing constituency 06 in the Jawei chiefdom on behalf of the descendants of Kailahun District.
The Chiefdom speaker of Jawei chiefdom Chief Fadah Kallon disclosed that the flood was first in the history of Daru town adding that the impact was too great on the people and the community. Chief Fadah commended the effort of all NGOs including the Sierra Leone Red Cross Society (SLRCS), Ndomakeh Federation, the Chiefdom Authority and the Police for their timely intervention during the time of the flooding which he described as positive move in the right direction.
In his contribution the former President of Sierra Leone Dr. Alhaji Ahmed Tejan Kabbah who also witnessed the presentation ceremony said as elderly Statesman he is still committed to ensure that peace which was brought to Sierra Leone by his past SLPP government is maintained and it is obligatory on everyone to work toward development. 
He expressed sympathy with the flood victims adding that he was shocked when he first got the news. Dr. Kabbah used the occasion to advice the people of Kailahun District to be law abiding at all times and respect one another in the interest of peace in the country.
He warned the APC government against ill treatment to some set of Sierra Leoneans especially those who are not in the same political party with them or tribes men adding such ugly development will not only undermine the peace of the state but will also affect the development of the country. 
Earlier his opening statement the chairman of the ceremony Dr. John Karimu said as descendants of the chiefdom they have the moral responsibilities to come to the aid of their people  when in need especially in the flooding incident which he described as catastrophe
Dr. Karimu appealed to the people of Jawei and the entire Kailahun District to be united and work towards the development of the communities.
