Sierra Leone News: Mamamah airport still on course

Reports from Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Finance indicate that the government is still working out modalities with the World Bank and IMF to kick-start construction of the Mamamah Airport soon.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs says that Mamamah Airport is needed and of great importance to the country in terms of meeting the international standards that will attract more airlines.
President Koroma, while in China, said, “When the airport is completed, it will ease the problem of crossing the channel to Lungi and it will increase the number of lights coming into the country.”
He also said the airport will help in increasing tourism that will help in bringing hard currency to the country, which will boost the economy and promote positive image of Sierra Leone.
The Foreign Affairs Minister, Dr. Samura Kamara, said, “Mamamah Airport will attract more investors and the airport economic development zone including the industrial park will create lot of employment as well as providing more goods and services to the nation.”
Mr. Wang, the General Manager of the Chinese company that has been given the contract to build the airport, said, “The airport, when completed will enrich Sierra Leoneans’ life and make the whole country prospective to a larger extent.   The airport has been a dominant issue, especially for economic corporation between Sierra Leone and China, which symbolizes the profound friendship between the two.”
The Chinese government is ready to support this project from all fronts and the Chinese stated-owned company; China International Railway Group (CRIG) are more than ready.
CRIG has brought in machinery and engineers. CRIG has already built their camp at the Mamamah site and they are well-prepared anytime they are called upon.
Meanwhile, the core idea that Chinese President Xi mentioned during the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation is now being implemented across Africa.
However, the Mamamah Airport cannot kick-off, because the government of Sierra Leone has not reached an agreement with the IMF and the World Bank and other International organizations.
