China Railway Seventh Group (CRSG) Coordinator Todd Hung has told Awoko that the Wellingon – Masiaksa Highway under construction is by phase and they plan to complete the first phase before the rains.
In a tour of the road and visiting the Calaba Town Police Post on Sunday, Todd who the community people say his their Counsellor said they have divided the road into phases so that they can finish it on time as well as build a quality road.
“The first phase of this road is from Wellington to Yams Farm and as you can see we are on course to finish it, the paving of the road is at an advanced stage, we will soon finish the construction of the Orogu Bridge because we want people to start enjoying the road.”
The Coordinator of the road stressed that they believe in the Local Content policy and that is why they make sure they employ more Sierra Leoneans in the company.
Talking about their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Todd said they have been constructing schools in Mongeba, and Jui. He said when the Calaba Town Police Post wanted to relocate, he was called upon by the Officer In charge (OC) Memuna Kamara and he brought bulldozers to clear and excavate the land, paved it and create a road.
“I took my crane went to the Police Training school Hastings, brought three containers for them and erected them on the pavement so they can get a better office.”
Todd averred that he has been helping the Calaba Town Communities and other communities with whatever they ask them for and they will not relent because he wants to see a develop Sierra Leone as well as peaceful and happy people.
He stressed that the expansion of the road is a massive development as it will enable people and goods to travel within the shortest possible time in a safe condition.
“In China we believe that any nation that wants to develop must start with the road because it is the path to success and development.”
OC Memuna as she is fondly called said she was very happy with what CRSG is doing in the communities they are working and especially what they have done for them at Calaba Town.
“Todd has always been there for us, anytime we called on him he is ready to help us, he is so popular in the community that even the children know him as Counsellor because he is always working and engaging the community in development drive.”
OC Memuna said the job they are doing is of high quality and they are very hardworking and they are teaching Sierra Leoneans how to work hard and be respectful.
She thanked CRSG for their support in Sports and hope they will continue to help them whenever they called on them.
Pedestrians and motorists using the road who were asked of their opinion were all happy for the quality of road they are constructing as well as the time frame of the job done.
