The recently established foam company located in the Hastings Community has started manufacturing different sizes and shapes of mattresses for households, hotels, hospitals and hostels and they are currently exhibiting some of the locally manufactured products at the Chamber of Commerce exhibition at the Siaka Stevens Stadium.
Vitafoam Sierra Leone Limited was incorporated in August 2008 and has Vitafoam Nigeria Plc as major shareholder but seeks high network individual Sierra Leoneans and foreigners, venture capitalist and development agencies to partner with them.
According to the Abdul Kabia Sales Manager and Store Keeper the company has formally commenced manufacturing and sale of its high quality and long lasting foam products in Sierra Leone.
He said they are the leading manufacturer of block polyurethane foam and makers of foam products including mattresses, pillows, bed sheets, sofas, baby beds and other home furniture that are made of quality density and affordable.
He said the company manufactures 250 mattresses a day and could increase production according to the demand of the market.
Funds for the establishment of the manufacturing company in Sierra Leone was provided on 13th October, 2011 by the International Finance Corporation (IFC), a member of the World Bank Group after several efforts for a Sierra Leonean joint venture or partnership.
IFC provided a $2.8 million loan to help Vitafoam the Nigerian domestic market leader to expand in Sierra Leone so as to support manufacturing and encourage cross-border African investment.
The entry of the Vitafoam group into Sierra Leone has created at least 65 jobs within six years in an economy where youth unemployment is a major issue, Kabia said.
He said the company has also created indirect employment through wholesale and retail outlets with over 30 outlets across the country.
Vitafoam has also expanded with sales outlets in neighboring Liberia and plans to extend to Guinea, Conakry.
However Kabia said all raw materials especially chemicals for the manufacturing of foam are imported into the country. He also disclosed “Vitafoam offers a quality based range of bedding and general wellbeing solutions that will generate sales, revenue maximization and profitability of investments.”
Customers will be offered with wide range of bedding and general wellbeing solutions that will ensure the comfort and vitality of its users.
Products of Vitafoam he said includes high density flexible foams covered with attractive design plain textile, foam chip pillow packed in 600g with high density for all kinds of weight.
He added that other products include Vita spring mattresses, latex pillows, baby children products, leisure mats and sport mats.
