Sierra Leone News: ADP proclaims woman running mate

The Chair and Presidential Aspirant of the Alliance Democratic Party (ADP), Mohamed Kamarainba Mansaray, has announced Isata Abdulai Kamara, former Secretary General of the Party as his running mate for the March 2018 elections.
Abdulai-Kamara has served as Secretary General of the Party since May 2016. Prior to her political career, she worked in the civil service as a teacher in several secondary schools in the country and later as a lecturer at the Njala University. The newly appointed running mate has also worked with the UNICEF.
In her acceptance speech on Monday, 8 January 2018, Abdulai-Kamara said she has worked with the Party in enforcing accountability and holding the government accountable. She spoke about male dominance in representation in the country stating, that needs to be changed.
She also talked about reforming the public service; improving quality of life for all and national and international security. She described these issues as current challenges faced by the country. She called on the female populace to support her. “I want my children, your children, to grow up in a country where the streets are safe; the public space isn’t filthy, where it isn’t a hassle to get around….”
Mansaray, the ADP Leader, said one of his dreams was to empower women. Isata Abdulai-Kamara is the first proclaimed female running mate for the 7 March 2018 general polls.
