Sierra Leone News: NPD nominates 3 councillors in the western area rural district

The National Progressive Democrats (NPD) was scheduled to go through the Western Area Rural District nomination process for councillors on Thursday 11th January 2018.
Out of the ten candidates nominated under the Party, five of them were present at the National Electoral Commission (NEC) district office that day. However, only three were able to go through the process successfully. The other two of them had two each instead of three nominators, which disqualified them from going through the process. Among the three candidates were two females and a male.
Explaining the reason why the nominees could not go through the process, the National Deputy Secretary General of the party, Ibrahim Koroma said the coordinator of the candidates at Waterloo was in the provinces and could not come on time to present them.
There were also a few irregularities such as variance in name and ward number, which were easily corrected as the commission was able to address them.
The NEC District Officer however assured the Party that they would get a chance to go through the process on Saturday, which will be the last opportunity for the remaining candidates to go through the process.
Koroma said by Saturday he would be able to get the rest of the candidates to go through the process.
