Sierra Leone News: APEX Optics upgrades eye care facilities

Apex Optics has upgraded its eye care facilities at 19 Syke Street in Freetown with top-notch equipment to examine eyes and offer corrections on contact lenses, spectacles and low vision aids.
According to the Managing Director of Apex Optics Optometrist, Ebrima Bah, the new clinic has been upgraded to meet international standards, so as to meet the demands of clients in Sierra Leone.
He said the Apex Optics eye care has a stock of all lens types contact, mineral, photogrey, plastic, tinted transition, bifocals, non-designer frames and sunglasses.
He added that the clinic has a team of eye care professionals trained in UK, Sweden, the USA, Nigeria, and the Gambia with cumulative individual practice of over 100 years.
Apex Optics Limited started in the Gambia in 1985 and it has expanded to Senegal and Sierra Leone with plans to open new branches in Guinea and Liberia.
Dr. Augustine Macauley Optometrist and Clinician at the Apex Optics eye care said they assess vision for job suitability for drivers, pilots, security personnel, school children, quality inspectors, computer and visual display users.
“We also provide all kinds of optical devices, instruments and accessories for primary eye care and prescribe medications according to the optometrist formulary,” Macauley said.
He also said, “We design interior and exterior lighting for maximum visual and energy efficiency.”
In case a further specialist treatment is required, Dr. Macauley ,said they maintain an extensive registry of both national International referral clinics.
He said about 67 million people have glaucoma globally, the disease occurs more commonly among older and younger people.
He added that Glaucoma has been called the “silent thief of sight” because the loss of vision usually occurs slowly over a long period of time.
Dr. Maculey said Glaucoma is the second-leading cause of blindness after cataracts. He also explained that glaucoma is a group of eye diseases, which result in damage to the optic nerve and vision loss.
He assured that Apex Optics has the required equipment’s and expertise for eye care, our clients base range from corporate institutions, like banks, insurance companies to other businesses and ordinary people.
He also said that Apex Optics eye care products are of quality with state of the art laboratory, they are affordable and cautioned that people with eye problem should seek medical advice as soon as possible before it gets worse.
