Sierra Leone News: Chinese New Year – 2018 Year of the Dog

On Friday 9th February 2018, the Embassy of China celebrated their Chinese New Year at the Bintumani Hotel and Chinese Ambassador Wu said the year 2017 was very good for the Sino-Sierra Leone relationship, which he says is growing day-by-day.
Amb. Wu said according to Chinese Zodiac, 2018 is the Year of Dog, and there is an old Chinese saying that anyone born in this year will be communicative, serious, and responsible in the workplace.
“The Sino-Sierra Leone friendship and cooperation has made great progress in the past year. To implement the outcomes of the meeting between our two Heads of States, a number of important cooperation projects have been launched. The Strategic Partnership of Comprehensive Cooperation of our two friendly countries has been promoted to a new height.”
The Ambassador averred that next month, Sierra Leone will hold general election and he is confident that the people have the capacity and wisdom to conduct a peaceful and fair election. He said he wants to reiterate that, China’s support for Sierra Leone’s peace and development will never change and the resolve of China to pursue unity and win-win cooperation with Sierra Leone will never change.
“The year of 2017 had been an outstanding and impressive year for Chinese people. It witnessed the 19th National Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC), which marked a new era in socialism with Chinese characteristics. At this Congress, a general goal was set for China’s diplomacy to foster a new type of international relations and to build a community with a shared future for mankind and China’s commitment to working with other countries for a bright future was fully demonstrated.”
Responding, the Minister of State in the ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mohamed Gibril Sesay, congratulated China for celebrating the year of the Dog and said the communication between the two countries has been smooth cordial and hope it will continue to grow in the coming years.
“Mr Ambassador I want to promise you that the coming elections will be free and fair and moreover very peaceful. There will be no intimidation and security will be tight and President Koroma has assured the international community that there will be a peaceful transition.”
The Minister of State averred that China’s growth is an example to Sierra Leone as both countries are doing the best business because China is Sierra Leone’s biggest trading partner and hope China will continue to open up more areas for Sierra Leone to delve into and do good business.
