Sierra Leone Sports: Salone Deaf Lion Stars in preparation for African Championship

Sierra Leone national Deaf Lion Stars football team training intensively ahead of the 2018 Africa Championship scheduled for August in Niger.
Public Relations Officer, Kassim Fitzgerald Mansaray asserted that they really need some amount of money to cover expenses for training kits, transportation and allowances for the players.
As part of their preparation, the team has started training with 22 players and they will be touring the northern region to play friendly matches with different teams, starting on Monday 12 February 2018.
Mansaray says the warm up matches will help the team to build on their physical fitness, endurance and technical skills. “We are aiming at producing a formidable side that will not only settle for the third place in the tournament, but challenge to win the trophy”, he said.
The team won bronze in the previous edition held in Bamako, Mali in 2016-2017 after beating Niger 6-4 on penalties in a very tight match.
Assistant Coach, Sorie B. Kamara said they are finding it difficult to get sponsorship and sometimes the players get frustrated with the situation because they are always with the notion of not being properly taken care of as national athletes.
Despite the lack of resources, the Coach said the players are intact and they have been playing together in the past few months. Therefore, with such preparation, they will be in the position to stand the likes of Ghana, Nigeria and Mali who are their main target in the tournament.
Monday February 12, 2018.
