Sierra Leone News: Ecobank launches Emerald Business Club

Ecobank Sierra Leone Limited on Thursday 17 May 2018 launched the Emerald Business Club at their Head Quarter at Charlotte Street in Freetown. The aim of such a business club is to provide dynamic support for the networking of Small and Medium Enterprises (SME’s) and, local corporate customers and, the promotion of their products locally and across their network of 33 African markets.
According to the Head of Commercial Banking at Ecobank Sierra Leone Limited, Victor Williams, “the banking industry is changing dramatically and the needs of customer and customer’s service requirements are also following the same trend. SME and local corporate customers needs to go beyond pure provision of financial services. These needs represent an opportunity for Ecobank to build brand recognition, customer loyalty and also to increase customer productivity as well as improving the credit performance.”
He said the club is for dynamic business owners and the Emerald Ecobank Business Club is an innovative platform geared towards meeting the divergent needs of SME’s and entrepreneurs by forging new network for businesses to business transactions and fostering intra Africa trade.
The Head of Commercial Banking maintained that the objective of Emerald Business Club is to grant members with a special care through capacity building and in order to create networking and further contribute to develop their business and also to create a community formed by the best and most promising SME’s in our affiliate.
Among the benefits highlighted by Williams of being in the Emerald Business Club, is that, members will enjoy privilege treatment through a dedicated help desk, provide regular financial advice to club members, and members will have access to concessionary rate on product and services offered.Giving the criteria of such s club, Williams said customer profitability is a key indicator, noting that the total number of profit makes by serving the customers over a minimum of 6 months, credit turn over, and also periodic review of membership list.
In his key note address, Wilfred Sam King, said such a club is a brilliant initiative, which is very unique and restrictive, noting that one needs to be a member before enjoying such facilities. He stressed that the Emerald Business Club is not only a product but also providing a platform to brainstorm.
He said “Emerald want to tap into your brain and the Bank don’t want to grow alone but with its customers.” He said one must be careful of fatal assumption, noting that such assumption sometime wreck businesses in the first two of existence. “A person must be financial discipline to succeed in business”
Unveiling the Emerald Business Club card the Managing Director of Ecobank Sierra Leone Aina Moore said for most SME’s the key challenge is access to financial services and more so credit to enable them meet the demand for their products and services as they expand. “Though the Emerald Ecobank Business Club and our enhanced financial services, we hope to help close this gap by providing financial support to SME’s and local corporate across Sierra Leone.”
