Sierra Leone Sprots: It was a great experience for the Judo team – Idrissa Massaquoi

The President of Sierra Leone Judo Association, Idrissa Massaquoi, said that taking part in the HohHot grand prix 2018 is a great experience for the team.
He said three people represented the country; himself with two senior athletes; Fedrick Harris in the 81kg and Olumide Patrick Campbell in the 90kg.
He said this was the first time they are taking part in the Hoh Hot grand prix which open the system for the qualification for the next Olympic games which is 2020 by that time if Sierra Leone should qualify for the games they should have score 250 points with 20 more tournaments to compete in before the next Olympic Games so they need government and companies to assist in that direction to assist them financially so they will be able to compete and secure the necessary points.
He revealed that they were able to compete in this competition because of their international body who provided the tickets and a friend, Aki Sannoh, who has been assisting the association.
The International Judo Federation President, Marius L. Vizer said the Hohhot hosted the China’s leg of the IJF World Judo Tour which in 2018 takes on even greater significance as the first event to carry points towards qualification for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.
Every elite level judoka will have a dream of representing their country at the Olympics and the story for could change dramatically during the second half of 2018 with the qualification phase up and running into 2020. The President of Chinese Judo Association, Dongmei Xian has said the Grand Prix is one of the first major international events, furthermore, as the beginning of qualification for Olympic Games Tokyo 2020, this tournament is very important and significant.
