Sierra Leone News: Sierra Leone to host West African CSOs on Governance

Cross section of West African Civil Society Forum (WACSOF) members will assemble in Sierra Leone for a public awareness forum and press conference on African Governance Architecture, at Bintumani Hotel Aberdeen in Freetown, on Thursday 9 August 2018.
The West African Civil Society Forum is running a project related to the African Governance Architecture (AGA), which was established by the Africa Union Commission. The establishment of AGA as a structure toward the successful implementation of the African Charter on Democracy, Elections and Governance (ACDEG), has contributed greatly in the area of fostering democratic principles across the continent.
As part of the project, the West African Civil Society Forum in partnership with other organizations including ACTIONAID Africa will be organizing a public awareness forum and Press Conference in Sierra Leone, to enlighten the general public on the African Governance Architecture (AGA) and the African Charter on Democracy, Elections and Governance (ACDEG).
The General Secretary of WACSOF, Komlan Messie, said as inspired by the objectives and principles enshrined in the Constitutive Act of the African Union particularly Articles 3 and 4, which emphasizes the significance of good governance, popular participation, the rule of law and human rights. He said WACSOF fully recognized the gains and contributions made by African Union and the Regional Economic Communities in the area of promoting, nurturing, strengthening and consolidation of democracy and governance.
The General Secretary said the Sierra Leone Public Awareness Forum and Press Conference would serve as a platform to reaffirm collective efforts to work relentlessly to deepen and consolidate the rule of law, peace, security and development across the continent. He reaffirmed that their operations has been that of strengthening and consolidating institutions for good governance, continental unity and solidarity with the fundamental objectives of promoting the universal values and principles of democracy, human rights and the right to develop as enshrined in the African Charter on Democracy Elections and Governance guiding document.
