Sierra Leone Sports: Women’s cricket team runners-up in Botswana

The Sierra Leone national women’s cricket team won four out of five matches in the BCA women’s cricket international T20 tournament in Botswana and finished runners-up to Namibia who emerged as champions.
The head coach, Sarah Johnson, said that Ann Marie Kamara won the best bats woman of the tournament having scored the highest runs.
Adama Kamara won woman of the match award against Mozambique, Aminata Kamara won the woman of the match award against Malawi and Botswana whiles Ann Marie Kamara won the woman of the match award against Lesotho. The result will now ensure the women’s participation in regional tournaments for qualification to global ICC tournaments.
According to Sarah Johnson, this a big achievement for the team and the country and thanked the players for the focus and determination they showed throughout the competition.
According to MCU President, Vivek Ganesan, it was an historic tournament as the International Cricket Council (ICC) has officially sanctioned the tournament and all teams will receive a world ranking based on their performance.
The Sierra Leone delegation is expected back home today according to the media team of the association.
