Sierra Leone News: 12-yr old pupil testifies about sexual harassment

Joshua Gbanganta, 25, a distant family member who lives in the same compound in Goderich, allegedly sexually harassed a 12-year old JSS1 pupil on 1 June 2018. He was arrested on 19 August 2018 and charged with Sexual Harassment contrary to Section 13(d) of Sexual Offences Act of 2012.
The victim testified in open court on 28 August 2018 at the Siaka Stevens Street Magistrate Court No.7. She said she recognised the victim as their house help.
During her testimony, she said on 1 June 2018, the accused entered her room while she was sleeping and tried to sexually abuse her.
The victim told the court on another occasion the accused opened her locked door with a knife and tried to force himself on her. She said she ran to her mother’s room at around 3:00 a.m. and reported the matter.
The victim’s mother then confronted Gbanganta about the complaint. He denied the accusation. She took the matter to the Police at Mechkem.
The accused was not granted bail and he is still on remand at the Pademba Road Male Correctional Centre. The case has been adjourned to 4 September 2018.
