Sierra Leone News: Local Govt. Minister monitors cleaning exercise

The Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Anthony Brewah, described the just concluded National Cleaning Exercise held on Saturday, 1st September 2018 as impressive. Speaking during an inspection tour of various communities engaged in Freetown, the minister commended stakeholders, especially youths for their enthusiasm and commitment in ensuring that their surroundings are clean.
At the junction of Jui where he first met with key stakeholders including the Councilor and Headman of the community, Brewah reiterated government’s determination and commitment to promoting a safe and healthy society.
The Minister also visited the Kissy Dump Site where he met the Mayor of Freetown City Council, Yvonne Aki Sawyerr.
He encouraged citizens to always keep their environment clean, adding that as leaders, they are always prepared to participate in the program so as to motivate others. “We will take further steps to encourage people to do more”, he assured. Mayor Sawyer commended the Minster and assured him of her council’s continued cooperation.
The Minister also met with enthusiastic members of the Gateway Youths Organisation and thanked them for their positive response to their call and impressive turnout in spite of the heavy down pour of rain. The youths pledged their unflinching support and appealed for assistance in the area of education and job opportunities.
National Coordinator, Civil Society Consortium on Service Delivery, Wiliam Sao Lamin, echoed their commitment to complementing government’s efforts in ensuring a sound and healthy nation. The Minister later visited Kingtom Dump Site and other villages in the Western Area Rural District.
