On Thursday 6 September 2018, a fire ripped through a house in south-east London leaving one dead and two injured. Memuna Warne, the principal of LICSAL Business College in Freetown, was holidaying in the UK when she died in the fire. Two people who had left the building before firefighters arrived were rushed to hospital. Metropolitan Police said a woman in her late 40s was found dead in the house while a man in his 60s and woman in her 50s were taken to hospital for treatment.

Up to 60 firefighters in Woolwich, UK, fought the blaze but were unable to save the house or the victim. Fire investigators are treating the fire as suspicious.

“Local CCTV footage will be reviewed and detailed forensic tests carried out. A crime scene remains in place and the Homicide and Major Crime Command have been made aware of this incident. Detectives are keen to hear from anyone in the area – including local residents – who heard or saw anything suspicious before or after the fire started.”
