Sierra Leone News: Sino-Sierra Leone friendship developing faster – Minister Alpha Timbo

Minister Alpha Timbo

Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs and Substantive Minister of Basic and Primary Education Alpha Timbo said that the Sino-Sierra Leone friendship is developing at a faster rate because both countries shared historical experiences. He made this statement during the 69th anniversary celebrated by the Chinese Embassy to commemorate their National Day at the Bintumani Conference Centre.  “As we celebrate with joy and favour, we would like to pay tribute to those flawless and impeccable Chinese nationals who fought tirelessly to achieve the founding of Peoples Republic of China and those who shaped its destiny with vision and wisdom.” He said it is important to reflect on how China has stood as a remarkable link to the world with its glorious culture, tradition, education and technology. “I concur with Ambassador Wu Peng that China-Sierra Leone friendship is well at an advanced stage through historical experiences, development tasks and political demands, uniting together, forging ahead hand in hand and working assiduously to build a community with a shared vision.” Minister Timbo said diplomatic ties with China have come a long way since 29th July, 1971 and which the Government of President Julius Maada Bio has indicated his firm commitment to maintain. The maiden state visit by President Bio to China and his attendance at the Forum on China-Africa (FOCAL} Summit, has so far been a remarkable success in that direction. President Bio said, “As a newly elected President, I am committed to strengthening our long-standing friendship by focusing on strategic and cooperative partnership. Attracting foreign direct investment from China; and leveraging opportunities in development aid from China would be key in this strategic and cooperative partnership”. “During the summit, President Bio paid a state visit to China. He met with President Xi Jinping and Premier Li Keqiang respectively. With his Chinese counterpart, President Bio exchanged experiences in governance and sketched an overall blueprint for cooperation between China and Sierra Leone in the future years. I believe these high-level interactions would immensely strengthen the sincere friendship and cooperation between our two countries.” “Our friends in Africa say that if you want to go fast, walk alone; and if you want to go far, walk together. We Chinese say the flame burns high when everybody adds firewood to it. Let us join hands to build on the friendship between China and Sierra Leone and foster our bilateral relations to go well, reach far, root deep and deliver real results.” Amb. Wu Peng said President Xi Jinping said that China cherishes the traditional friendship with Sierra Leone. He noted that since the establishment of diplomatic ties 47 years ago, the two countries have always been good partners and stood together through thick and thin. President Xi Jinping announced that China would expand cooperation with Sierra Leone in infrastructure construction, agriculture, fisheries, health care, education, and security capacity building, and continue to support each other in the multilateral arena.
