Sierra Leone Sports: We organized sports to identify talents not for violence – Gibson Gaima

The Devolved Sports officer Gibson Gaima of the Freetown City Council has said they organized sports to identify talents and to also bring people together in a peaceful manner not in violence. He made this statement during a one day workshop on Thursday 25th October 2018 at the Atlantic Hall Siaka Stadium in Freetown. He said that is reason why Freetown City Council is organizing such workshop so that student will know that sports is not violence ahead of school activities that is expected to start early next month. He stated that this workshop on non-violence in school sports they are collaborating with the National Sports Council and the Ministry of Sport. A teacher of Government Rokel Secondary School, Alusine S. Conteh, said during the workshop they were able to know that in sports you need to accept defeat not about winning all the times. He said that they were able to know as a game teacher they need to have the right equipment to train the student so that they will be able to perform very well. He also revealed that teachers and students need to have integrity so that they will not go out to the street to fine people that will come and play for them that some time will cause violence.          The Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Sports Bai Turay has said that the idea is nice to get students, teachers and some institutions like the Police who are key stakeholders to be part of a sensitive program like this talking about non violence in sports. He went further to appeal to all present that they need to pass the knowledge gain to others that are not around that violence in Sports is not good he will only destroyed them.
