Sierra Leone Sports: Swimming Association names six for World Championships

The Secretary General of the Sierra Leone Swimming and Water Polo Association, Mohamed Turay, has disclosed that six people have been selected by the technical team to represent the country in the 14th FINA World Swimming Championships in Hangzhou, China from 6 – 16 December 2018. Four men and two women will compete and two swimming officials will join the traveling team. The Technical Director of the Association, Victor Carew, said the final trial was done on Sunday 28 October 2018 at the swimming pool with 30 swimmers competing. He said at the end of the trials the best swimmers were selected by their performance because they want the best for the country. He also revealed that all events entered are for 50m in a 25m swimming pool. The Technical Director revealed that 15year old Tity Dumbuya, won both the freestyle and butterfly events putting up a splendid performance swimming 37.59 secs in the freestyle event offsetting Bunturabie Jalloh’s freestyle time. While Joshua Wyse (recent FINA Scholarship recipient) improved on his time of 28.57 secs in Buenos Aires when he swum 28.16 secs in the 50m freestyle event. The final list of the delegation; Joshua Wyse (Brookfield’s Swimming Club) – Freestyle & Butterfly.  Alie Kamara Susan’s Bay Swimming Club – Breaststroke and Backstroke, (Standby in the case where Joshua Wyse might not be available) Abib Kamara – Susan’s Bay – Freestyle and Breaststroke.  Isha Kanu – Goderich Swimming Club Breaststroke and Backstroke and Tity Dumbuya  Dr June Holst-Roness School – Freestyle and Butterfly Tity Dumbuya said she is looking forward to her first international exposure.
