Sierra Leone Sports: Gov’t allocates Le9.7 billion to Sports Ministry in 2019 budget

Le9.7 billion has been allocated to the Ministry of Sport from the Ministry of Finance in the 2019 budget according to Finance Minister, Jacob Jusu Saffa, during the First Reading of the 2019 Appropriation Act in the Well of Parliament on Friday 2 November 2018. Ibrahim Nyelenkeh, the Sport Minister, on Saturday 29 September 2018 presented the Ministry’s proposed budget to the Finance Ministry at the Bank Complex in Freetown. The proposed budget from the Minister was for Le30 billion. The Minister wanted to initiate:

1-The establishment of a sports development Fund.

2-Roll-out plan of the National Sports Authority into phases.

3-Further training of coaches and sports administrators.

4-Promote Inter-Ministerial linkages for sports development.

5-Participation in international sports competitions, seminars, conferences, workshops etc.

6-Creation of sports facilities across the country. Development of programmes for National Sports Association for talent identification.

7-Write projects for local and International funders.

8-Provide adequate capacities for nationwide deployment of staff especially in District towns.
