Sierra Leone Sports: Sierra Leone competes in African Tennis Cup in Botswana

Sierra Leone is competing in the African Tennis Cup in Botswana organized by Botswana Tennis Association (BTA). This is the biggest tennis competition in the continent, the African Nation Cup, featuring at least 13 countries. The competition, which is being played in singles, doubles and team events, started on 5 November 2018 at the national tennis centre in the capital Gaborone and ends on 10 November 2018. Countries in the tournament are hosts Botswana, South Africa, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Kenya, Sierra Leone, Burkina Faso, Tunisia, Madagascar, Comoros, Morocco, Gabon and the Democratic Republic of Congo. Each country is allowed a maximum of three male and three female players. However, Botswana as host has been allowed to field five male and five female players. The men’s singles champion will pocket $1,800 USD while the runner-up will get $1,100 USD. The women’s singles champion will on the other hand pocket $1,100 dollars while the runner-up gets $750 USD. The competition will also carry International Tennis Federation ranking points.
