Sierra Leone Sports: SLCA host Mercury Beach Cricket Tournament

Sierra Leone Cricket Association (SLCA) has hosted the Mercury Beach Cricket Tournament on Sunday 25th November, 2018 at The Place Resort, Tokeh Beach, in Freetown. “Our national women’s team competed in the tournament against male teams. This is to promote women and girls involvement in cricket and to show that women can perform at the highest level”-Beresford Bournse-Coker, Chairman, SLCA. Beach cricket is played with 6 players per team, using soft balls and plastic cricket bats. It provides a fun-filled experience for beginners, amateurs and professional alike. Six (6) teams competed in this competition. The teams are British High Commission/DFID, Sierra Leone U19 Boys, Pak Star, Indian Combined, Sierra Leone Women’s team and Veterans Combined. Cricket is one of the Britain’s great gifts to the world so it is fitting that the British High Commissioner to Sierra Leone, Guy Warrington, participating in the Beach Cricket tournament. “We aim to use the Beach Cricket to popularize the game, to get more people involved in the sport and to inspire different populations within the country, Francis Trevor Samura, CEO, and SLCA The competition was won by Pak Star they defeated the Indian in the final and third place goes to Veterans team the first three receives gold, silver and bronze medals plus trophies. This event is proudly sponsored by Mercury International and The Place Resort at Tokeh Beach and the SLCA would like to thank these companies for their commitment to help expand the cricket within the nation.
