Sierra Leone Bussiness: NIDO organises second business award

The Managing Director of Sea Coach Express Olusegun Jaji, on Friday 30 November 2018, was awarded business man of the year 2018, by the Nigerian in the Diaspora Organisation (NIDO) during the second edition of the Nigerian and Business Special Recognition awards at Bintumani Hotel. Olusegun Jaji is the owner of the water transportation company sea coach express, which started operation in Freetown in 2008 with one boat that has also expanded to become a major player in Lagos Nigeria. He started the story of his unlikely journey into Sierra Leone water transportation industry in 1996 when he arrived in the US with a young family to support and no work permit. According to many that he is the most recognising name in sea transportation with his jetties in Aberdeen and Lungi. After receiving the award, Jaji thanked the organisers and also the Sierra Leonean community for creating a conducive atmosphere for his business to thrive. However, he noted that there are challenges but they are bound to be surmounted as a businessman. Prior to the dishing out of wards to winners, the Vice Chairman of NIDO Ernest Udeh in his statement noted that Nigerians network and collaborate all over the globe in order to achieve their goals. He pointed out that “the award is not only to recognise the awardees successes in their various businesses but also to reflect on the activities they have done in the year. He pointed out that the award will help to strengthen Nigeria international friendship by recognising other nationals work, adding that as a result of that they have transformed the award from purely Nigeria base, to Nigeria business and special recognition awards by crediting deserving other nationals in the area of business. According to the Chief Minister Professor David Francis “our government is business friendly and we will ensure that we create the enabling atmosphere for businesses to thrive.” He emphasised that they are keen on promoting Pan African business, noting that they are looking forward to be working with the Nigeria community, as he had known Nigerians for business, for quite a while. Twenty two awards were distributed in total and amongst the awardees were Staco Insurance for insurance company of the year, Ekundayo Gilpin of Rokel Commercial, as the Managing Director of the year, President Bio for Excellence in leadership with regards to the free quality education and investor of the year to IIC insurance, Marie Stopes amongst others awardees.
