Sierra Leone News: NRA signs MOU with NATCOM

National Revenue Authority (NRA) on Monday 3 December 2018 signed a Memorandum of Understanding with National Telecommunications Commission (NATCOM) to increase revenue collection and exchange information. Commissioner General of NRA, Samuel Jibao, said he was happy that NATCOM is ready to collaborate with them as they want to continue the upward trend of revenue mobilization. “This is one MOU that we will be signing with other institutions like Airport Authority, Sierra Leone Maritime Administration and EDSA, etc.” Jibao said with good relationships between his institution and those raising revenue for government, there will be an increase in revenue through compliance and effective taxation. The Deputy Director General of NATCOM, Daniel Kaitibi, averred that they have been working with NRA even before this new dispensation and they are ready to continue working with them as it will help them in meeting their obligations to the government. “We are hoping that this new way of collecting tax will be more effective and it will bring success to both institutions. We are totally in support and we will continue to work with NRA to make this drive a big success.” Director of Revenue and Tax Policy, Ibrahim Kanu of the Ministry of Finance, said they are happy that NRA is putting modalities together to increase revenue. “The Ministry of Finance is happy and supportive of every positive effort made by NRA to increase revenue and this MOU we believe is in the right direction.” The Commissioner of Domestic Tax Department, Ibrahim Sorie said when all the other institutions who raise revenue sign the MOU with NRA then it will be a positive step for the government to realize more from taxation and easy to cross check all information.
